I wrote this poem as a follow up to the Learning to Let Go post I wrote earlier this week. This was just a reminder to myself that moving on does not constitute forgetting but merely a shift in focus.
We met as children,
We played as teens.
Then we lost the friendship that we built.
It wasn’t you,
It wasn’t me,
But we let the bond of friendship severe.
At first, my heart was shattered,
An ocean of crimson tears engulfed me.
When I thought of us,
My heart could only weep.
But I see you now,
And my heart can only smile,
Because of who you have become.
And no matter the distance,
No matter the time,
I will always be there when you call,
Because now is not all we have.
We have an entire story,
An entire treasure-chest of memories.
And I don’t know if you will ever remember me,
But I know I will never forget you,
Because who you are,
Is who I always knew you were:
My friend.
