Friday’s Favorite Five: Devotion Ideas

Hey y’all!

Happy 2018! I hope this year is going splendidly for you so far. I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit. I’ve been able to volunteer more at the local stables, so that has already been a great improvement from last year.

So, I know I mentioned in my last post that I was not going to mention any New Year’s resolutions.

And I’m not.

But I’m going back to the Friday’s Favorite Five series (now that holidays are over), and the very first thing that came to mind were devotion plans.

I’m going to be candid and vulnerable here. I am disappointed with my Spiritual life and devotional habits. Sometimes, I do not feel like doing devotion. Sometimes, I do not feel like sitting down and reading my Bible because I do not feel close to God, and I get deceived into thinking I have “better things to do”.

And I feel terrible on those days…

Have any of you felt this way?

Well, I have found some devotion ideas that I have personally used on those days that I feel like I can’t just sit and read a chapter of Judges, but I would like someone reliable and trustworthy to lead me through a couple verses.

So, here are some awesome ideas that I’ve personally found useful to help through those rough patches.

Scripture exhorts us to study the Word of God and to know the truth inside out – even on those days when we really don’t want to. Hopefully, these will help improve your daily devotional habits as much as they have improved mine.

Joshua 1:8 ~ This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Matthew 4:4 ~ But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 4:12 ~ For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

#5 Ligonier Ministries YouTube Series:
We live in a technological age, and there are many ways for Christians to take advantage of this. I would only recommend this method of watching and listening as long as you still get your Bible out and read along. You cannot just rely on what is being told you. Assurance#4 Ligonier Ministries:
Closely related to #5, this is the official website that provides blog posts, podcasts, and videos for you on various Spiritual topics from some of the best Christian leaders, teachers, and pastors. It also has suggested books and an upcoming-events calendar. I have also found the app very useful. Here is the link for the website: Ligonier Ministries

Love the Word

#3 FPC Coral Springs Podcast:
This suggestion is just slightly biased. This is my church’s website, and the reason I’m putting it here is because my pastor is one of the best. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Each 45 minute sermon is packed with food for your Spirit. Download the app the take the sermons on the go. Here’s the link to the website: FPC Sermons

#2 Tabletalk:
My family discovered this awesome devotion series a couple years ago. Once you subscribe, you receive each month’s pamphlet, which includes a one-page daily devotional. Everything is very well written and wise. Tabletalk is a devotional put out by Ligonier Ministries. Here’s the link: Tabletalk

Early Morning

#1 Truth For Life:
Alistair Begg is one of the best teachers I have ever heard. He is very wise and knowledgeable. The website, app, and YouTube channel contain his videos, podcasts, and blog posts. I very highly recommend this amazingly talented teacher. Download the app, so you can take all your devotions on the go if you like. Turn to the Bible

That’s a wrap! I hope you guys were able to find at least one idea relatable and useful. Remember, it is in the moments when you don’t desire God that you need to step out and immerse yourself in His Word, in His Love, in Him.

And He will always be there for you to do so…

Psalm 119

What ideas were your favorite/that you’ve used before?
How do you deal with those days when
